Dan MaKeymasterI had a hard time seeing this on my phone, because the player shrinks on mobile. Here is the link to the player: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik3XObdYi-w&list=PLeRJoiukL9JFHKkR8_cr8M0DkSgzEWufT
Maybe this will hep.

Dan MaKeymasterI don’t know if this is a “great” wing chun video to watch, but I thought this was interesting to see an red boat wing chun form that looked like all 3 forms massed into one very different yet recognizable preformance.

Dan MaKeymasterHi All,
Just wanted to share a person who I have been following for kettlebell exercises: Mark Wildman. Kettlebell exercises is a great for compound / total body workouts–more work with less time. With modern day life we are always sitting. Sitting patterns promote tight hip flexors and weak hip extensors (glutes), which can lead to a lot of pelvic-tilt disorders (chronic lower back pain). For us Wing Chun practitioners, I postulate that our Wing Chun kicks could possibly exacerbate tight hip flexors. Luckily we can remedy this with foam rolling and stretching our hip flexors in conjunction with strengthening our glutes with squats.

Dan MaKeymasterI think my favorite Wing Chun movie is “Wing Chun” with Michelle Yo & and Donnie Yen. After that the first Ip man movie is way up there. The Prodigal Son is okay. I wish someone would do an epic movie on Wu Mei–that would be way cool with The Abbess taking revenge on the traitorous Pak Mei for destroying the infamous Southern Shaolin
temple. -

Dan MaKeymasterAll of the classes have been helpful for me, but here are some thoughts from me:
- I personally found the assignment to be the most helpful, though I do understand that technology can be a barrier for many–the effort put into creating the video was well worth the feedback.
- Personally I like the classes most where we dissect a move from one of the forms and drill it over and over, then sprinkle in discussions and at least one exercise/drill that challenges strength endurance.
- I also found it helpful when Alyda was behind the scenes watching us practice and letting us know how to do it better.
- It would be interesting to test our Speed, Agility, and Quickness by introducing noise/visual ques between a set of responses (a few blocks & strikes?). Example: always performing chain punches except when we hear: wood-block noise = tan sao, whistle noise = bong sao. Just a playful idea…success rate unknown.

Dan MaKeymasterI have a love/hate relationship with MMA.
I feel like saying that the majority of MMA athletes look like great athletes, but look like mediocre martial arts.
It is good that there are some good representations of Wing Chun in MMA, especially since there is so much bad representation already. My question is, do we validation from MMA that traditional gung fu works? I for one don’t, because MMA derives from traditional gung fu.
Anyhow, I wrote a longer rant about this and then decided to dial it back.
Thanks Alyda for sharing and that you do!

Dan MaKeymasterI’ve heard that we all leak our chi all day everyday, and that there are advanced practices in where you seal yourself up so you don’t lose as much. Men lose most of their chi through ejaculation and women during their menstruation. I know there are Taoist love practices in where you can harness sexual energy. Men can tie weights to their “junk” and women have jade eggs inside them that are tied to weights. I think the idea is that all the organs are tied to our “junk”. As wild and crazy as it might seem, I think there is a little bit of truth in it. There are practices of “testicle breathing” and “testicle massage”. If you lightly press on your testicles (talking to the kung fu dudes) you can actually feel your kidneys. Anyhow that’s probably enough information for now…

Dan MaKeymasterThanks Alyda,
I pulled the info out of my NASM book, and it has really helped my lower back problems. I feel like I’m pulling out of my chronic conditions. I also think not having a desk job also has something to do with it.
