Dan MaKeymasterI do what I now call the Iron Shirt, which I learned from my father as a teen when I didn’t know it had a name. By chance about five years ago, I saw on Youtube that my father’s practice was fairly identical to the postures of Mantak Chia’s Ironshirt. Now I can’t say that my “shirt” is as hard as iron, because that’s not really my focus. But I would say that this standing meditation saved my life from the corporate lifestyle that took a six year beating on me. Now I do this practice every day as a must.
Below is my current meditation flow:
- Feeling Prayer of Abundance & Love
- Siu Lim Tao
- Iron Shirt
- Embracing the Tree w/ the Inner Smile
- Holding the Golden Urn (yang / yin) w/ the Fusion of the Five Elements
- Golden Turtle / Water Buffalo
- Bone Breathing
- Golden Phoenix
- Iron Bridge
- Swimming Dragon w/ the Six Healing Sounds

Dan MaKeymasterLast week in class I was told when I am able to do the SLT on one leg on each side continuously then I am ready for the Chum Kiu form. In the last couple days I’ve been sick, but that hasn’t stopped me from doing just that. My left leg is noticeably weaker than my right.

Andrew ChanParticipantI typically spend one to two hours a day watching Adam Mizner and Nima King videos online. Then I do a two minute SLT and go to bed.

Andrew ChanParticipantThank you for acknowledging how advanced I am, Sifu. But I didn’t get here overnight. It took years of disciplined self-practice…
In the beginning, I could only watch one short YouTube video at a time before my eyes would get tired. It was only through many years of sitting in front of my laptop that I was able to get to where I am today. Now I can watch videos all night at will and feel totally comfortable writing online comments about martial arts I’ve never even seen or heard of.
